Ruby Cole was born in Ponder, Texas, in 1933. She grew up with seven siblings on a farm, and moved to a heavily segregated Denton with her family at the age of six. Mrs. Cole attended Fred Moore High School and received her Bachelors from Prairie View A&M. She actively participated in civil rights demonstrations in Dallas during the 1950s, and her sister was an active member of the Denton Women’s Interracial Fellowship Group in the 60s. Cole has been active in local Denton politics since the 1980s.
