22. Charles Oliver
OLIVER, CHARLES (ca. 1820-June 25, 1883): Charles Oliver was born about 1820 in Georgia. He was married to Peggy Oliver (b. about 1825 in Georgia). In 1870, Charles and Peggy lived in Duffeys, Tallapoosa County, Alabama, with their eight children; Mollie (b. 1842), Marshal (b. 1850), Lee (b. 1852), Henry (b. 1855), Billy (b. 1857), George (b. 1859), Sallie (b. 1861), and Martha (b. 1865). In Alabama, Charles and his family worked as farm laborers. Charles, Peggy, and three of their sons (Lee, Billy, and George) came to Texas, settling in Pilot Point between 1876 and 1877. In 1880, Charles Oliver lived with his wife Peggy and two of his sons, Billy and George. The family worked as farm laborers on forty acres of land they rented. The Oliver family raised cattle and pigs and harvested crops such as Indian corn, apples, and peaches. On June 25, 1883, Charles died of unknown circumstances and was buried in St. John’s Cemetery. He was survived by his wife Peggy and his sons, Lee, Billy, and George.
