Isaac Allen Death Certificate

ALLEN, ISAAC (1896-1920): Isaac Allen was born in 1896 to Sam and Eliza Allen in Pilot Point, Texas. Sam (1859), the son of Bill (1818) and Elva (1827), was born into slavery on Woodson Palmer Allen’s plantation in Beat 9, Chambers County, Alabama. Isaac’s mother, Eliza (1870) was the daughter of Sam (1823) and Ann (1832), who were also enslaved on the Allen plantation. Isaac’s parents and grandparents moved from Chambers County to Denton County in the early 1880s. In North Texas, both families made decent livings for themselves as farmers and agricultural workers.

Isaac was the fifth of seven children born to Sam and Ann Allen; Mary (1891), Martha (1892), Ann (1894), Solomon (1895), Isaac (1896), Sam W. (1905), and Abram J. (1908). Isaac worked as a laborer on his father’s farm. With the onset of the First World War, Isaac registered for the draft, however, it is unclear whether he served in the war. In 1919, Isaac and his parents were involved in a lawsuit in which they were order to pay over $934 to the fox Brothers. However, Isaac died of unknown causes in 1920, four years before the judgement on this case was released by the court. Isaac Allen was buried in St. John’s Cemetery alongside his aunt Matilda (1871-1891), uncle Thomas (1867-1886), and grandmother Ann (1832-1889).
