Little Safe Smith

Little Smith Headstone

Headstone of Little Safe Smith

SMITH, LITTLE (1889-1889): Little Smith was born in 1889 and died that same year.  Little Smith was presumably the child of Henry and Lissie Smith, also buried in St. John’s Cemetery.  The headstone of Little is painstakingly hand carved, showing great attention and care as only a parent could give to their child.  Discovered by the students researching the cemetery, Little's headstone was buried under several inches of leaves and mud and found lying facedown several yards away from where Henry and Lissie's headstone was found knocked off of it's pedestal in what is assumed to be a large plot for infants of the community.
