Amanda Truitt Williams

WILLIAMS, AMANDA "MANDY" TRUITT (November 1886-March 16, 1917):  Amanda Truitt Williams was born in Texas in November 1886. Amanda was the fifth of ten children born to George Truitt and Lou Truitt of Alabama: Mike (b. 1877), George (b. 1880), Lucy (b. 1882), Mattie (b. 1884), Amanda (b. 1886), Mary (b. 1888), John Willie (b. 1890), Leonard (1892), Ida (b. 1894) and Agle Lee (b. 1899). George and Lou Truitt’s three oldest children were born in Alabama before the family decided to relocate to Texas in 1883. Upon settling in Pilot Point, Texas, Amanda’s father, George, rented land and worked as a farmer. As a young woman, Amanda married into the Williams family. Amanda gave birth to a boy in 1907 and named him Walter. Shortly thereafter, Amanda’s husband passed away. Mandy and her son moved back in with her parents on their farm. In the 1910s, tuberculosis spread across Pilot Point, and the Truitt family suffered multiple losses. Amanda died of pulmonary tuberculosis on March 1, 1917, and was buried in St. John’s Cemetery in Pilot Point. Amanda was survived by her father George, her sister Mattie, and her brother Leonard.
