John White
John White grew up in and attended segregated schools in Pilot Point, Texas. He received his Bachelor of Arts degree in religion/religious studies in 1966, then went on to receive his Master of Divinity from Brite Divinity School in 1969 and then a degree from Sam Houston State University in Criminal Justice and Corrections in 1975. White served as a juvenile probation officer for 27 years and then as the senior pastor of the Forest Hill Church of God in Christ for almost 17 years. Subsequently, White served as a member of the Pilot Point City Council.
White has several family members buried in St. John’s Cemetery. White felt very strongly about finding as much information as possible about the St. John’s community. White discovered that he had family members buried in the cemetery. White said, “J.D. White, the Allens, the Holloways, they were relatives of mine and they are buried there. Now, there may be others that are buried there but there are no headstones to depict where they are buried.”
